Day 19- Finding Balance through Meditation
![]() |
Good morning!
Day 19 is about creating balance in life through meditation. Balance is needed to allow one to live their dream life. The best I found to do this is through meditation.
As a doctor, I believe in meditation as an excellent way of promoting healthy living and disease prevention in the population.

Find Balance...
I believe I have more than stressed enough on meditation and its benefits it has on this blog. I am going to go more into more detail about meditation itself and its numerous incredible benefits. Meditation helps remove emotional and psychological blockages which prevent us from self-actualization.
First of all, what is meditation?
Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.
Meditation has transformed my life in so many ways that it are so mind boggling to see how such a simple breathing technique can unlock the gateway to a whole new life!
I try not to dwell on the past, but I believe it is important to look back and see where I have come from, so as to always remember to show gratitude for who I am now.
I used to worry and complain a lot. These are worries/complaints people think are "normal" and should be a part of everyday life. Things like my well-being, my family/loved ones well-being, bills being paid, money money money, my love life/if I will ever get married, my current job , the outlook of my career, social acceptance/people liking me, my personality, my appearance, and so on....

Be positive!
Nothing was ever enough to keep me fully satisfied. I was always looking for something outside of me to keep me happy. Be it a great job, a good man, nice friends, a successful career, lots of money, etc... I had all of that, yet I still wanted more and more and more....
There was always something shinier than what I got in my hand.

Contentment is key!
If I did not understand, could not control or was afraid of something or someone, I would get very intense negative emotions.

Let go of your ego!
This along with my idealistic nature really did me no good. My aim for perfectionism was a lot of pressure that I could not handle. Plus having a family so driven for success, failure was always never an option. I always felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders, as sole my responsibility, so I never wanted to disappoint!
The worst part was the intense guilt I felt. For wanting to relax and have fun, not doing enough work and never being good enough!
The constant fear I had in my heart, made me sad, make a lot of bad decisions, become cynical/pessimistic and an overall negative person.
I always pointed out flaws in people and things around me, to make me feel better that there was always something or someone worse off than me.
Anyways... I digress!
I have learned that my fears are out of my basic instinct to survive. Once you let go of your fears, and embrace love instead, you become who you are truly meant to be in life, and live your true purpose. With my fears gone, came less worry and embracing life fully.
The average human life experience does not appeal to me anymore. There is more to life than moving through the motions and constantly trying to survive day to day. I want to experience life and live it to the fullest till the day I die!

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!
So what is the key to removing all worries and fear from your heart?
Gaining mindfulness, self awareness and finding your true self!
Meditation is an excellent way of doing this.
Not only does it induce calmness/relaxation, it transforms the body, mind and spirit in many different ways that have been scientifically proven with links:
Body: Reduces stress, risk of cardiovascular disease like heart disease and blood pressure and of stroke. Encourages healthy living with diet changes, sporty lifestyle and more exercise. Decreases ones need for sleep and helps treat insomnia. Reduces sickness by increasing immunity by up to 50% and reducing bodily inflammatory processes. Increases brain plasticity by promoting the generation of new neurons and neural connections which shows improved learning, memory and concentration that has been tested. Reduces risk of brain degenerative diseases, prevents many other diseases even HIV, asthma, Crohn's disease, etc. Helps people live longer with a more youthful appearance and prevents premature death!

Mental: Treats depression, anxiety, and manages ADHD by improving focus and attention. Helps let go of bad habits/addictions including smoking, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc. Relieves pain better than morphine. Improves decision-making/judgment and increases one's resilience in tough situations in life. Gives better memory recall, increased creativity and instills self discipline.
Spiritual: Increases awareness of your unconscious mind, improves empathy, encourages positivity, reduces worry, increases feelings of love and compassion, reduces prejudice and enhances ones spiritual connection to God, the Source or the Universe.
The five major religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (with links added) all practice forms of meditation, so anyone can practice it to enhance their religious life.
This is enough compelling evidence to show that meditation is an amazing tool and I urge everyone to take it up daily. The benefits of just practicing 20 minutes daily meditation for a month is enough to see these benefits show up in your life.
I have outlined my daily meditation schedule to show an example of how it can be done.
5- 5:30 am: Wake up and clean up.
5:30- 6 am: 15 minutes of meditation and 15 minutes of prayer.
6 am: Start the new day.
As you can see, it is quite simple and easy to incorporate into your daily routine.
Everyone's meditation routine should be flexible and tailored to their personal needs. The internet has a plethora of valuable information on different meditation techniques and their benefits. Choose what you feel most comfortable with and try to incorporate it to your day.
Document how things and life change over time. Patience is key, but its rewards are immeasurable.
Here is an 8 week online free beginners course to get you started on mindfulness meditation.
Hope this works out for you, and let me know how meditation has changed your life.
